New Nikon Lens

Today, Nikon announced the release of their new AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G lens. The lens features a maximum aperture of f/1.8, and is compatible with Nikon FX-format digital-SLR cameras.

The AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G offers blur characteristics and three-dimensional rendering capabilities possible only with a fixed focal length (prime) lens. The f/1.8 maximum aperture allows for excellent image quality even with shooting in dimly lit indoor settings.

It also has a built-in Silent Wave Motor (SWM), which allows for extremely quiet autofocus operation. The built-in SWM also means that you can shoot on autofocus when the lens is used with cameras such as the D5100 and D3100, which are not equipped with an autofocus drive motor.

You can check out Nikon's site to read the full release and check out some more of its specifications.

Canon Speedlight 320EX

Canon recently released a new Speedlight flash, which will be available at dealers sometime this month.

The Canon 320EX features an LED light on the front, which can be used to illuminate nearby subjects in dim light. The light can be used for video recording, as a modeling light, or as an AF assist beam during Live View shooting.

When used with EOS DSLR cameras that have integrated Speedlite transmitters, the Speedlite 320EX is able to be used as a wireless slave unit. The 320EX also features a flash release function allowing for wireless flash shooting.

The 320EX allows you to manually change the flash coverage from 24mm to 50mm by extending or retracting the flash head. It also offers a guide number of 32m at ISO 100.

The Speedlite 320EX is also the first to feature a Video Light function, which enables users to illuminate low light scenes continuously when capturing HD video.

PDN Photoplus Expo

On October 27-29, Photo District News held its annual PhotoPlus International Conference and Expo at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC.  The event sponsored seminars by professionals in the ‘imaging’ field.  Attendees got to see some of the latest products coming on the market, including the much anticipated Nikon D7000.  Nikon provided attendees with the opportunity to try out some of their cameras and shoot models.  Sony also encouraged people to try out some of their cameras to capture photos of skateboarders performing various tricks in a half-pipe.  Canon, too, showed their latest wares.  Skateboarders and photographers signed photos, and a multitude of vendors, such as HP, Manfrotto, and Tamrac provided opportunities to test new products. Many vendors were also giving away free gifts such as coupons, pens, and t-shirts.

The event gave vendors a good opportunity to show off their products to the attendees. The attendees were able to get hands-on experience with many products and could talk with the vendors to learn more information about the company or certain products. There were many things to do and see which made the event a worthwhile experience.

More information about the event can be found at http://www.photoplusexpo.com/
